LAHORE, July 11: A 400-kanal piece of land has become a bone of contention between the Lahore Development Authority and the EME Housing Society, it is learnt on Friday.
According to reports, the authority has included the piece of land in its LDA-Avenue Housing Scheme in the form of E-Block, and allotted 200 plots to the retired and government servants on it. But the society, claiming to represent the most powerful institution in the country, has refused to forego its claim over it and is continuing efforts to take possession of it.
The society started construction of a boundary wall for the inclusion of the piece of land in its scheme a few months ago. Thereafter, the authority demolished the wall and warned the society against making any extension in its scheme without its prior approval.
However, the housing society has recently made another effort to take possession of the disputed piece of land after allotment of plots by the authority, by laying sewerage system and starting construction of the roads. The authority has once again demolished the construction work, warning the society not to include the area in its scheme.
The society approached the authority for issuing it a NoC to acquire the disputed piece of land for the extension of its housing scheme situated along the canal bank ahead of Thokar Niazbeg around two years back, but its request was turned down because the authority intended to include the area in its residential scheme.
The society, however, did not abandon the plan to include the plot it in its scheme and entered into agreement with landowners to acquire it in case it was not acquired by the authority.
