LAHORE, July 11: The Lahore High Court on Friday summoned a Rangers official for July 17 on a habeas corpus petition filed for the recovery of 10 tenants of the Okara military farms.

Petitioner Bashiran Bibi had alleged that her son along with nine other youths had been lifted by the Rangers officials on July 6 after their families had refused to pay a daily extortion of Rs50 allegedly demanded by the officials. “We hardly manage our living. How can we afford to pay Rs50 daily?” the petitioner pleaded.

The police official concerned informed that the police had not taken the petitioner’s son into custody. Bashiran Bibi started crying in the courtroom alleging that Maj Tahir Malik of Rangers had abducted her son. The court summoned the major on the next hearing to update it on the whereabouts of the 10 youths.
