ISLAMABAD, July 10: The national under-16 summer tennis training camp is in full swing here at PTF Complex clay courts with the boys set to play trial matches from Thursday.
“The boys will play matches against each other from tomorrow besides having physical training and coaching lessons”, former Pakistan Davis Cupper, Inamul Haq said.
Inamul Haq, alongwith another Davis Cupper Shah Mehmood and Mehboob Khan, are the coaches at the camp being attended by 13 boys from across the country.
“Though the camp started on July 1, a few boys showed up late due to inevitable reasons and hence the slightly late start of trial matches”, said Inamul Haq.
He said the boys had showed a real promise, remarking that the holding of junior summer training camps will pay long-term dividends to PTF.
Four boys from Sindh, three each from Punjab and Islamabad, two from NWFP and one from Balochistan have been selected for the camp which will run till July 28.
The camp trainees are: Shahrukh Khan, Tanvir Ashiq and Umer Baber (Punjab), Yasir Khan, Aamir Ali, Ali Abdullah and Danish Ahmed (Sindh), Jawad Gardezi, Noman and Abid Ali (Islamabad), Shakirullah, Shaheen Khan (NWFP), Usman Ijaz (Balochistan).
Two selected boys from this camp will join the national probables camp being held in Lahore next month in preparation of Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Zone, Group-I, tie against South Korea to be played in the Punjab capital from Sept 19 to 21.—APP
