GUJRANWALA, July 8: A flood of flies and mosquitoes in Gakkhar Town has made the residents’ life miserable, as vermin and diseases have spread throughout the locality.
Some residents of the locality complained on Tuesday that they could not move in public places because of flood of mosquitoes and flies for the last four days.
While doctors are of the view that mosquitoes appear due to filthy conditions and stagnant water in monsoon. They advise people to avoid exposure to filthy conditions.
Worn-out drainage system in the town has already damaged due to which streets in the residential and commercial localities are flooded with rainwater.
The affected people have demanded the government higher-ups to launch aerial spray campaign to fight mosquitoes.
SHOT DEAD: A man was shot dead and his two sisters injured in an ambush by their rivals over a land dispute at Suratabad, Qila Deedar Singh, on Tuesday.
Reports said farmer Abdul Ghaffar and his sisters Lubna Bibi and Rifat Bibi were on their way home from their fields when their rivals opened fire on them. As a result, Ghaffar died on the spot while his sisters suffered hurts.
They were taken to the Qila Deedar Singh civil hospital in critical condition.
Police have registered a case against the suspects and are investigating.
CASES: The Anti-Corruption Establishment on Tuesday registered a case against three government employees, including a police ASI.
Information gleaned by this correspondent revealed that ASI Muhammad Akram received Rs10,000 from Tanvir Ahmad to support him in a criminal case.
SP office clerk Waqar Ali Raza demanded Rs35,000 from Muhammad Latif for recruiting him in the police department, and a basic health unit clerk, Muhammad Ilyas, pocketed Rs5,000 to offer employment to Surraya Bibi in the health department.
The ACE raiding team is in search of the suspects.
SHO SUSPENDED: An SHO was suspended from service by the range police chief on the charges of breach of duty. He was issued show-cause notice on Tuesday.
DIG Malik Muhammad Iqbal reviewed the overall performance of the SHOs at a meeting and found Kamoki Saddar police station SHO, inspector Sadaqat Ali, negligent in his duty.
POISONOUS DRINK: An educational institute director, who was served poisonous cold drink, was saved by the DHQ hospital doctors after washing his stomach on Tuesday.
Reports said Hafiz Nadeem Iqbal asked a clerk to fetch him a cold drink and the latter allegedly served him poisonous drink. He became unconscious and was hurried to the DHQ hospital where doctors washed his stomach.
