Oil company sacks 25 employees

SUKKUR, July 8: An oil company, laying a pipeline in Kashmore, terminated 25 more employees on Tuesday.

It may be recalled that 150 people were terminated just three days ago, raising the number of terminated employees to 175.

Meanwhile, the terminated employees, led by Wazir Chachar, staged a demonstration against the company in Kashmore.

OFFICIALS ARRESTED: Two more officials involved in embezzling Rs180 million with the collaboration of the education department and the treasury office, Jacobabad, were arrested on Tuesday, raising the number of arrested persons to seven.

The two who have been arrested are Mohammad Umer Rashid, District Accounts Officer, Treasury office, Jacobabad, and Irshad Shaikh, auditor.

Earlier Assistant Accounts Officer Lal Shah, Altaf Buriro (clerk of the accounts department), two teachers, Nazeer Ahmed Noonari and Ali Hassan (who are also the office bearers of the GSTA), and Mohammad Nawaz Soomro, a clerk of the education department, had been arrested.

It may be recalled that a three-member inquiry team was appointed by the DCO, Jacobabad, Bakhshial Khan Gudaro, last Wednesday. It consists of the EDO, Revenue, Shamsuddin Soomro; the DDO, Shaukat Jokhio; and the circle officer, Anti-corruption, Nisar Ahmed Brohi. It started an inquiry regarding the embezzlement of Rs180 million, which was misappropriated through bogus vouchers.

ACCIDENT: A boy, Zulfiqar Korai, 15, was killed under the wheels of the 15-Up Karachi Express, near the Pano Aqil Railway Station, on Monday night.

TWO INJURED: Two people were injured in a gun battle between the Kori and Ramejo tribes in Bagarji, Sukkur district, on Tuesday.
