MINGORA, July 8: Transpor-ters observed on Tuesday a wheel-jam strike to protest against the government for not initiating construction work on the Shangla-Swat road.

The owners of public passenger vehicles, plying between Swat and Shangla, took out protest processions in Khwaza-khela and Shangla and chanted anti-government slogans.

Speaking at the processions the transporters’ leaders warned to continue strike if the government failed to initiate work on the road.

They said that successive governments had failed to fulfil their responsibilities, adding that both Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto had announced construction of the road, but did not keep their words. They said that the Shangla road was as important as the Silk route.

#MEETING: # The Shangla Bar Association announced a one-day boycott from the courts as a mark of solidarity with the transporters for the early construction of the road.
