Labour Day: An acknowledgement of workers’ rights

The reason for May 1 public holiday, called May Day in some countries and Labour Day in others, is to remind everyone that workers have their rights too, especially those organised into what are known as trade unions. The origin of this special day can be traced back to around 1810 when the 'Eight-Hour Day Movement' began.
