KARACHI: Dr Malcom S. Adiseshiah, Deputy Director-General of the UNESCO said in Karachi yesterday that a scheme for the establishment of national science libraries in Pakistan with the assistance of the UNESCO will be considered shortly.

He also indicated that an expert might be visiting Pakistan for about three months to assess the requirements of assistance for the establishment of the proposed libraries. He made these comments when he visited the Pakistan National Scientific and Technical Documentation Centre, which was established by the PCSIR with the technical assistance of the UNESCO. The scheme of science libraries, according to PCSIR officials, would be submitted to the UNESCO through the Ministry of Education.

Dr. Malcolm also said that he will consider Pakistan’s request for making available the services of another UNESCO expert to give final touches to the documentation equipment, already installed and in operation at the PANSDOC. The UNESCO executive was shown round the PANSDOC by the Chairman and Secretary of the PCSIR. Dr. Malcom is currently visiting Pakistan to have first hand information about the progress of various UNESCO-aided projects.
