Allana take early lead

KARACHI, July 5: Fancied Allana took lead after the first two rounds in Yousuf Dada Bridge Championship at Aslam Bridge Hall on Friday with 46 Victory Points (VPs).

Allana are closely followed by Lipton 45 VPs and Candyland 44 VPs.

When the first round started, EFU versus Mahmood, Abacus versus Attackers drawn sharing 30 VPs equally.

Makeshift piled up 22-8 against Maq. Allana defeated Jamal 21-9, Pakistan’s ladies team outpaced Chandna 21-9, and so did Lipton to IKE with the same margin. Aces had the better of Raza 20-10, Shahab defeated Young and Old 17-13 and Candyland wore down Ahmed 19-11.

In the second round, Giants after first round bye faced Shahab, and the two combinations of Shabab-Nasir, Cmdr (retd) Nuri Pasha-Anwer Kizilbash put up a better shown than Mirza Shauq Hussain-Masud Mazher and Shahin Iqbal-Hasan Jawad did for Giants.

Allana pitched up against Makeshift and outplayed on every board to register a convincing 25-4 win. Lipton with Khaliq-Nasir, Yousuf Talpur-Rashidul Ghazi pairs netted more winning swings against Pakistan Ladis team to record an easy 24-6 victory. Tariq Rashid and M.A. Ansari are other members of the team.

Abacus, Makeshift, attackers, Raza, and Ahmed-IV are other teams that are within the striking distance of the front bunch and any of the team can turn the apple cart.

Since top three teams are facing each other earlier, technically, Giants would become a more potential candidate at a later stage.
