Two held ‘planting explosives’ under rail track

RAHIM YAR KHAN: The district police claimed on Wednesday to have foiled an attempt to blow up the railway track, arresting two alleged terrorists and recovering explosives from them.

District Police Officer Suhail Zafar Chattha told a press conference that a police team caught two alleged terrorists - Riaz and Peerakh - when they were fitting an explosive device under the track near Walhar station in Sadiqabad area at 1am.

He said the saboteurs wanted to hit 42/Down Karakoram Express and 39/UP Jaffar Express. The trains were expected to cross the spot shortly.

The police also recovered six kilo explosive material, detonators, cables, two pistols and bullets from them, he added.

Kot Sabzal police registered a case against the suspects under the Pakistan Protection Ordinance, he said.

The DPO said the suspects hailed from Sui (Balochistan) and were reportedly linked to a militant outfit, Baloch Republican Army (BRA).
