MULTAN, July 5: Hundreds of local Shiite Muslims took out a procession on Saturday to condemn attack on an imambargah in Quetta that left at least 44 people dead.

The procession was organized by the Tehrik-i-Islami Pakistan (formerly Tehrik-i-Jafaria Pakistan) at its stronghold Suraj Miani area.

Markets in the vicinity remained closed throughout the day to mourn the killings of the innocent people. Starting from a mosque, the protesters marched through various streets and roads chanting slogans against the US and local law-enforcement agencies.

To bemoan the carnage, they stopped at some points and beat their chests in protest. A police contingent remained alert alongside the route of the procession. No untoward incident took place, as the processionists dispersed peacefully.
