FAISALABAD, July 5: The local editors’ council announced on Saturday that they would boycott coverage of the activities of the district police officer, who allegedly used abusive remarks against newsmen in a speech.

At a meeting chaired by FED President Kanwar Tanveer Shaukat, it was decided that the local newspapers would not publish news about DPO Zafar Abbas Lak’s engagements.

The journalists criticized the DPO for using insulting remarks against them in his speech at an anti-narcotics seminar held at the local TMA hall a week ago. They said he (DPO) did not come to them in the past three days given to him for tendering an apology.

The editors’ council assured maximum support to the working journalists of the local and national dailies for launching a protest movement against the senior police officer. It demanded the Punjab governor and chief minister to call into question the DPO’s harsh attitude towards the newsmen.

Meanwhile, the Faisalabad Union of Journalists announced that it would hold an open house meeting at the local press club on Monday (tomorrow) to decide the future line of action in this regard.
