Two killed, seven injured as passenger train attacked in Bolan

QUETTA: Two people were killed and seven others were injured when assailants attacked a passenger train in Balochistan's troubled Bolan district on Monday evening, an official said.

Khan Wasey, the spokesperson for Frontier Corps, said armed militants opened fire at Nawab Akbar Bugti Express in Balochistan's Bolan district. He said two passengers were killed whereas seven others, including two women, sustained injuries.

"The train was stopped as a result of the attack," Wasey said.

He said the injured passengers were shifted from Bolan's Mach area to Quetta in a helicopter for medical treatment. "The assailants fled after launching the attack," the spokesman added.

Nawab Bugti Express was enroute to Quetta from Lahore when it was attacked near Mach in Bolan district. Panic spread among the passengers as a result of the attack.

FC, police and Levies personnel reached the site of the attack and cordoned off the area as investigation into the incident went underway.

Bolan, Balochistan's mountanious district, is considered to be one of the sensitive districts of the province. Militants in the area have been targeting security forces, passenger trains and other vital installations in the area.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for today's attack.
