Jameel strike fires LLWC to victory
KARACHI, July 2: Jameel Baba’s long-range effort fired LLWC to a deserved 2-1 victory over Aga Khan Gymkhana in last game of the KASB Premier League fifth round on Tuesday.
The triumph also helped LLWC jump from fourth to third place while hosts Karachi United slipped to fourth. Favourites Hyderi Baloch are still at the top followed by Baloch Mohammadan.
Aga Khan Gymkhana, playing at their home turf, could have gone ahead in the 9th minute but striker Mirbaz Ali missed a sitter.
LLWC went ahead when striker Shafi Mohammad’s low drive off a corner beat Aga Khan Gymkhana goalkeeper Munawwar Khan all ends up in the 13th minute.
Aga Khan Gymkhana winger Sohail Pervaiz came near equalising only to waste the opportunity in the 20th minute.
LLWC playmaker Liaquat Naz, the player of the match, created several chances for teammates right-winger Jameel, Aurangzaib and Shakir Lashari who failed to give his moves a final touch.
Sohail restored parity in the 55th minute when he dashed through the middle of LLWC defences and stunned goalkeeper Nasir firing home in the left corner of the goal.
The nimble-footed Jameel scored the match-winner after seven minutes, his long-range drive from the left went past Munawwar.
The game might have ended with a 3-1 scoreline had Aurangzaib’s shot not rattled the crossbar following a corner.
