GUJRANWALA, July 2: A six-kilometre-long flyover from Sheikhupura Morr to Rawalpindi Bypass intersection besides a two-way carpeted GT Road and an underpasses will be constructed for the smooth flow of traffic in the city.
This was stated by Corps Commander Lt-Gen Khalid Munir Khan while speaking at a meeting here on Wednesday.
He reviewed the traffic system on the GT Road and other parts of the city and directed the district government that traffic signals be installed from Sheikhupura Morr to Rawalpindi Bypass intersection to resolve traffic problems.
The Corps Commander also directed that a green belt and a service road should be constructed besides a recreation park near Sheranwala Bagh on the railway land.
District Nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha, DCO Iftikhar Ahmad, DIG Malik Muhammad Iqbal, City Nazim Babu Javed Ahmad, Saddar Tehsil Nazim Mubasher Ahmad Cheema, district officer (revenue) Najam Ahmad Shah, Motorway SSP Shariq Jamal and other senior officers were also present on the occasion.
COLLAPSES: The sanitation system of the Ghakkhar town has been collapsed due to the closure of the main sewer line.
Markazi Anjuman Tajran and the citizen council on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration and shouted slogans against the sanitary staff of the municipality.
They alleged that the sanitary staff were working at the houses of Nazims and councillors instead of performing their official duty.
They said that the Rail Bazaar Gala was the worst-neglected area where gutters had been choked and the filthy water was entering into houses and shops.
Nothing had been done to improve the situation despite informing the Nazim and Naib Nazim concerned besides senior municipality officers, they further alleged.
