MANSEHRA: The education department has terminated services of 16 teachers in Torghar for getting jobs on the basis of fake documents.

“I have been receiving threats from the terminated teachers and their supporters but I will obey the orders of provincial government, which has tasked me to overhaul the education department in this backward district,” Gohar Ali, district education officer of Torghar, told journalists on Sunday.

He said that so far 16 teachers were terminated after a scrutiny process and 18 more would soon be terminated as it was proven that they had submitted fake domiciles and other documents at the time of appointment.

Mr Ali said that provincial government wanted to put the backward and remote district on the track of development.

The government wanted to promote education in the district, he said, adding that he was assigned a special task to overhaul education department as it was the backbone of development.

“We are also in the process to sack those teachers, who have been absent from for duty since long. Such teachers have been asked through final notices to report to the department,” the official said.

Mr Ali said that he had been receiving threats from local elements since he started overhauling the education department.

“Would you believe that some teachers have been working abroad for the last many years but they still receive salaries? Such cases are taken up for prompt action and services of such teachers will be terminated after fulfilling legal formalities,” Mr Ali said. He added that increments of scores of teachers were also stopped because of many reasons.

ALLIANCE: The components parties of electoral alliance -- Pakistan People’s Party, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl and Awami National Party -- have decided to field joint candidates for local government elections in Torghar.

In this connection a meeting of the alliance was held in Judbah on Sunday with Syed Shahzad Shah in the chair.

The meeting was attended local leaders of the three parties including PPP district president Noor Feroz Shah and secretary general Laiq Shah; JUI president Mufti Azizullah and ANP secretary general Syed Mohammad Khan.

The participants of the meeting decided to follow instructions of their provincial leaders. They decided to finalise names of candidates soon.

“We will sweep the local government elections in district as people are fed up with the policies of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government in province,” said Mr Shah.

He said that local leaders of the allied parties were ready to work for their joint candidates without keeping in mind their party affiliations.

Noor Feroz Shah told the meeting that his party would support the joint candidates. He said that the previous provincial government of ANP and PPP gave status of district to Torghar to remove sense of deprivation among people of the area.
