SKARDU, July 1: Eight members of two Korean expeditions and a Pakistani mountaineer have succeeded to scale the 8,035m-high Gashabrum-II Peak in the Karakoram Range, Baltistan.

Mehboob Ali, director of the Trango Adventures, told Dawn here on Tuesday that some mountaineers of the Korean Karakorum Expedition and the student climbers of the Korean Kyungil University Expedition were trying to conquer the peak in the Baltoro region for the last one month.

Both the groups were awaiting clear weather for a final attempt after reaching at the last camp at the height of 7,050m. On a shining day of June 26, 2003, Hang Wang, the leader of the Korean Karakoram Expedition succeeded in reaching at the peak at 11am.

Soon after this the other climbers, Raw Kwan Ju, Mingma Sherpa and Dawa Ongju Sherpa, also reached on the top one by one.

On the same date, the students and a Pakistani porter also succeeded to scale the peak. First of all, Cha Jin Chof (leader), put his feet on the summit at 12pm.

Later, Bay Yound Rok, Lee Sung Jae, Dawa Nurbu Sherpa and Nisar Hussain of Sadpara village Baltistan also succeeded in reaching on the top of G-II Peak.
