KARACHI: Sindh Police were the only winners on the final day of the third-round matches in the Patron’s Trophy (Grade-II) cricket tournament as heavy rain played havoc in the games in the northern parts of the country on Tuesday.
Sindh Police celebrated their first victory as they sealed a nail-biting three-wicket success in their Group ‘A’ fixture against Pakistan Navy at the Arabian Sea Country Club ground here.
After taking the last two wickets for two runs to dismiss Navy for 163 in their second innings, Sindh Police lost seven wickets in their modest 119-run chase.
Off-spinner Nasir Awais captured five for 74 to finish with match figures of 11-152 but his heroics went in vain.
The remaining two matches in this pool ended in stalemate with both Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) and Pakistan Customs earning first-innings’ points.
K-Electric utilised the last day of the three-day tie at the NBP Sports Complex to amass 442-5 after resuming at 44-1 against SSGCL. Opener Fakhar Zaman plundered 147 off 176 balls with the aid of 20 boundaries, while Saad Ali helped himself to 157 in a 191-ball knock containing eight fours and four sixes.
Zeeshan Ali hit 104 to enable Customs close their second innings against Saudi Cricket International at 233-5.
Needing an improbable 297, Saudi Cricket International ended up making 190-4.
The two Group ‘B’ games in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi saw no play at all on Tuesday. While the Dollar East-Pakistan Education Board tie at the Diamond Club Ground was washed out without a ball being bowled, mere 4.1 overs of action was possible on Sunday’s opening day in the CDA-Nadra fixture at the Pindi Cricket Ground.
Play was also abandoned for the day in the remaining two matches, played in Gujranwala and Lahore, respectively.
