GUJRAT, June 30: A resident of Daria Kathana village has filed a writ petition with the Lahore High Court against her uncle and the Kunjah police SHO, who had registered a fake case of her abduction against her husband and in-laws.
Saiqa Naureen is the petitioner while the Kunjah police station SHO, investigating officer Nazar Muhammad Gondal and petitioner’s uncle Bashir Ahmad, who is a complainant, are the three respondents to the petition.
Petitioner’s counsel Syed Zulfiqar Ali Bokhari stated that she (petitioner) had married Ghulam Abbas of her own free will in the presence of witnesses on June 6, 2003. Thereafter, her uncle got an FIR registered with the Kunjah police station against Siaqa’s husband, his parents and other close relatives on June 16, 2003, on the charges of abduction and rape.
He said Bashir wanted to marry his son with the petitioner against her wishes allegedly to grab two acres she was to inherit from her father.
He requested the court to quash the FIR and direct the accused police officials not to harass or pressure the petitioner and her in-laws.
A relative of the petitioner told this correspondent that the Kunjah police had arrested her mother-in-law on June 28, two days after she had filed the petition.
SHOT DEAD: A passport office agent was shot dead by some unidentified assailants at Faizabad locality on Sunday.
Reports said Yousaf was going somewhere when two or three armed men shot him dead.
Police have sent the body to mortuary for autopsy. They have registered a case and are investigating.
held: A joint team of Kharian excise and taxation department and police on Monday arrested a bootlegger in Ghazi Colony, Cantonment area.
The team led by AETO Malik Fazal, excise inspector Amir Shahzad and Cantonment SHO Nasir Cheema raided the hideout of the bootlegger and arrested Mukhtiar Ahmad. The raiding team also recovered 36 bottles of liquor, about 200 labels of different liquor companies, a coaster (Peshawar C-2756), some foreign currency notes and saving certificates.
The police said that the bootlegger was also involved in adulteration and manufacturing of local liquor.
SNATCHED: Some unidentified bandits snatched a car, a motorcycle and cash in two different incidents in and around the city on Monday.
Motorcyclist Rafaqat was intercepted by three armed robbers near Mungowal where he was deprived of his motorcycle and Rs10,000 in cash.
Tariq Masih of Sambrial was on the way by his car when three bandits intercepted him near Dhudra village. They snatched his car at gunpoint and fled.
