DADU, June 29: On the call of the Pakistan Human Rights Foundation, many people, NGOs, Nazims, Naib Nazims and councillors held a protest demonstration in Dadu town on Sunday against the administration of Lasmo and BHP.

After marching through the main roads of the town, the protesters stopped in front of the press club where they held a demonstration for an hour as a result of which the road was blocked. They were led by the secretary general, Pakistan Human Rights Foundation, Mehboob Sangi.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Mehboob said that according to agreement the BHP and Lasmo companies had to appoint local people in their fields and carry out development works in the areas. He said that the administration of these companies had not appointed local people in skilled and unskilled jobs and also had not carried out development works in the areas.

He complained that the local administration of these companies were appointing people from Punjab, the NWFP, and Balochistan.

He said that the people of the area had tried to visit the offices of Lasmo and BHP but they were not allowed to enter the camp offices for receiving application forms for jobs.

He said that the local administration of the BHP and Lasmo were not resolving the basic problems of the poor people of the catchment area.

Abdul Ghano Khoso, Abdul Khan Zounr, Qasim Jamali, Qurban Zounr, Andal Khan Gopang, Inayat Ali Jamali, lady councillors Husna Solangi, Waheeda and Fatima also spoke on the occasion.

DEMO: The people, including shopkeepers and PPP activists, held a protest demonstration against the collapse of the sewerage and sanitation system in the Sita Road town on Sunday.

The protesters were led by the PPP leader, Haji Zafar Ali Khan Leghari; the president, Shopkeepers Association, Sita Road, Haji Abdul Latif Arain; and Mir Ahmed Channa.

Speaking on the occasion, Haji Zafar Ali Leghari, said that the sanitation staff of the town committee was not performing their duty for the last several months.

He said that the nullahs of ward No2, Solangi, Bughio, and Kumbhar localities were overflowing and the streets had been inundated with sewage.

He said that substandard material was being used in the construction of the main nullah, and added that sewage had washed away the material at the main point, near the railway station.

He said that sewage had covered the railway tracks and the Sita Road railway station.

He feared that if the sewerage system was not taken care of quickly, the railway tracks would be inundated.
