LAHORE, June 27: The Lahore District and Sessions Judge on Friday ordered immediate arrest of Liaquatabad Police Station SHO and four other policemen, including a DSP and two SIs, for resorting to shooting on the sessions court premises three days back.
The court directed the Lahore SSP to arrest SHO Rashid Amin Butt, DSP Haq Nawaz, SIs Agha Iqbal and Abid Khichi and constable Mohammad Shafique who allegedly opened fire on the court premises on Wednesday after having a clash with lawyers.
Both the parties clashed on the issue of keeping two accused lawyers — Khalid Malik and Ashraf — in handcuffs. The lawyers claimed that the court had granted them bail and they could not be handcuffed further. The two lawyers were produced in the court on charges of attacking a police party which raided their house.
Resolution opposed: A resolution demanding the immediate transfer of the Lahore DSJ was rejected by the general house of the Lahore Bar Association.
An LBA member had tabled the resolution, alleging that the DSJ was solely responsible for the firing incident and that he should be transferred out of Lahore forthwith. However, a majority of the members refused to carry the resolution.
