Jail chief’s residence fired upon

GUJRANWALA, June 27: The residence of the district jail superintendent was fired upon on Friday allegedly by a gang of drug pushers.

The four assailants, including Akhtar Butt and Ghazanfer, are believed to be accomplices of jail warden Muhammad Ashraf who was caught red-handed supplying heroin and charas to inmates. He was later jailed on the orders of superintendent Shaukat Tiwana.

Police have registered a case against the accused

ARRESTED: Half a dozen government officials, including a tehsildar, involved in corruption cases were arrested by the Anti-corruption Establishment on Friday.

Naushera Virkan tehsildar Muhammad Sharif, qanoongo Faqir Muhammad and patwaris transferred the property of Bushra Bibi fraudulently.

The tehsildar later secured bail from a court of law while rest of the accused were sent to jail.

The raiding team also arrested education department head clerk Muhammad Latif, clerk Ali Raza and Wazirabad municipality clerk Arshad Mahmood on charges of their involvement in embezzlement in the disbursement of salaries of teachers.
