PESHAWAR, June 27: The United Municipal Workers Union of the city district government and towns has accused the Town-1 administration of maligning the provincial government and instigating the employees against it.

Speaking at a press conference held at the press club on Friday, the union chairman, Malik Naveed, alleged that Town-I Nazim Haroon Bilour and Town Municipal Authority officer were provoking the employees against the provincial government by making anti-workers decisions to create problems for both the district and provincial governments.

Other office-bearers of the union also spoke on the occasion.

The labour leaders alleged that the TMA wanted the employees to take to streets against the government and create law and order situation.

They claimed that the TMA had illegally stopped the salaries of about 100 employees though according to service rules salaries were paid even to those who faced suspension from service.

According to the union chairman, the TMA had issued an order on June 2, asking all the employees to prepare their service cards and gather at the office of the Town-I Nazim, so that their identity could be verified, but the Nazim didn’t turn up.

Mr Naveed alleged that the drama was staged to provoke the employees and bring them out on roads to create problems for the government.

“The rights of the employees have been usurped as they have been denied to avail weekly off day and gazetted holidays,” he said. — Correspondent
