Saleem Bugti dies of heart attack

QUETTA, June 26: Nawabzada Saleem Akbar Bugti, 55, eldest son of Jamhoori Watan Party chief Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti, died of a heart attack late Thursday night in Dera Bugti, sources close to the family confirmed here.

Born on Aug 24, 1947, Nawabzada Bugti completed his senior Cambridge from Aitchson College.

He entered in active politics in 1985 after being elected as a member of the Balochistan Assembly. He was also elected leader of the opposition in the non-party assembly.

Nawabzada Bugti was twice elected to the National Assembly, initially in 1990 and then again in 1993. He was elected to the Balochistan Assembly in 1993 and again in 1997.

He was handed the portfolio of provincial minister for education in the Akhtar Mengal-led coalition government for nearly two year before resigning when the JWP withdrew its support to the coalition government.
