Paradise Lost - Where it all burns down

The Sindh Cultural Festival, which opened with controversy and grandiose in Moenjodaro on Saturday, moved to Karachi on Sunday, kicking off proceedings with the Art Fest 2014 at the historic Frere Hall. A highlight of the event was Amin Gulgee’s performance ‘Paradise Lost’, played out on the installation Char-Bagh which went up in flames to signal the start of a ritual enacted by Gulgee and Joshinder Chaggar, who dazzled with their ritualistic, rhythmic movements. According to Gulgee, the ritual may “have existed five thousand years ago and was in memory of the civilization in Moenjodaro.
