KARACHI, June 26: The City council on Thursday formed a budget committee to facilitate the members of the house by conducting scrutiny and suggesting measures.

Members of the committee are Muhammad Siddique Rathore, Saeed Ghani, Jafarul Hasan and Abdul Aziz. They will be available in the committee room of the old KMC building from 10am on Friday, till the budget session continues.

The committee has been formed under section 112(3) of the Local Government Ordinance that calls for the formation of a budget committee to act as a bridge between the members of the council and the finance department.

The resolution regarding the formation of the budget committee was presented by Tazeem Siddiqui and seconded by Raees Kazmi. The resolution was approved by a majority vote, with seven members, mainly those belonging to the minorities, opposing it.

General councillor Mangla Sharma and minority member Younus Khan expressed their dissatisfaction on the ground that the committee did not have any women and minority members.

Soon after commencing the session, the house witnessed a pandemonium by the members belonging to Keamari, Lyari, Bin Qasim and Gadap towns. They criticised the city government for initiating development works in towns under the Al-Khidmat group and ignoring others.—PPI
