VEHARI, June 25: Another ‘activist’ of the Lashkar-i-Jhangvi was arrested by the Multan police on Tuesday night in Noshera Jamlera village, a Burewala suburb, some 65 kms from here.
A source said that the Multan police headed by inspector Ehsanullah raided the residence of local farmer Hafiz Tayab and arrested him. Police also recovered from him two Kalashnikovs and other weapons and shifted him to some unknown place for further investigation.
The source said that Hafiz Tayab would provide shelter to LJ hitmen Shahabuddin alias Hunza and Abdul Majeed alias Bilal who had already been arrested by the Multan police on Monday.
Vehari DPO Syed Javed Hussain Shah told Dawn that he was not informed about the operation and arrest of Hafiz Tayab.
According to the information gathered by this correspondent, Hafiz Tayab, a small farmer, is not an activist of the banned organization. However, the area people said that they had not seen Tayab for the last three days. They also showed their ignorance about any raid which led to his arrest.
The source claimed that the police had arrested Tayab a few days ago on the information provided by the two arrested hitmen of the Lashkar-i-Jhangvi.
