LAHORE, June 24: The Punjab Service Tribunal on Tuesday, setting aside Punjab government’s orders, reinstated three leaders of the Joint Action Committee.

PST chairman Justice Riaz Kiyani announced the decision to reinstate JAC chairman Nazim Hasnain, Hafiz Abdul Khaliq Nadeem and Majid Wazir.

The education department had terminated the services of seven teachers following teachers’ protest demonstrations, on Nov 25 last. The department had said they were terminated from service for violation of rules and regulations and taking part in agitational processions against the government.

The Punjab government had reinstated four teachers — Mahboob Husain, Mohammed Ijtaba, Mohammed Arif and Noorul Haq — on April 9 as they had given a written undertaking that they would not take part in the agitational campaign against the government.

As the three teachers, consequently reinstated by the PST, had refused to give such and undertaking, the Punjab government had declined to reinstate them. Similarly, former Pakistan Medical Association president Dr Yasmin Rashid had also refused to give the undertaking and was not reinstated. She was also reinstated by the PST on Monday.

Meanwhile, Nazim Hasnain said the teachers, doctors and students, under the banner of JAC, were protesting against government’s policy to denationalize and privatize educational institutions.

He said the review commissions headed by Justices Ejaz Nisar and Mujaddid Mirza had already supported the point-of-view projected by the JAC.
