25 booked for attacking Hesco office

KHAIRPUR, June 24: The Pir-jo-Goth police booked 25 persons on Monday night on the complaint of an SDO of Hesco following an attack on the local Hesco office by power consumers.

Those nominated in the FIR included Abdul Ahad, Altaf, Abdul Qayoom, Nisar Ahmad, Abdul Sami Mirbahar, Amanullah Ansari, Sajan Mal, Hotal Mal, Zohaib Hassan, Shakeel Malik and Abdul Majeed.

The SDO, Ghulam Raza Abro, stated in the FIR that the accused had also issued threats to Hesco officials.

The police arrested six of the nominated accused but later released them.

Meanwhile, a complete strike was observed in Pir-jo-Goth on Tuesday against registration of cases and arrest of residents. About 300 people took out a procession that marched through the main roads of the town and observed a sit-in outside the Pir-jo-Goth police station for four hours.

DEATH ANNIVERSARY: The 56th death anniversary of Mai Bakhtawar, a woman peasant leader, was observed in Saghiyoon, Sobhodero taluka, by the Sindh Hari Committee on Monday night.

Speaking on the occasion, Communist Party of Pakistan general-secretary Maula Bux Khaskheli said Mai Bakhtawar had stood against injustices and sacrificed her life for the cause.

About the greater Thal canal, Mr Khaskheli said it would render fertile lands of Sindh barren. He said his party would launch a campaign against the canal project. Imdad Qazi, Ismail Qureshi and others also spoke on the occasion.
