IT genius Arfa remembered

LAHORE: The second death anniversary of information technology genius Arfa Karim Randhawa was marked on Monday by civil society organisations, her fellow students, friends and family members.

Holding placards and banners, the participants remembered Arfa as an "asset for the nation and inspiration for younger generation."

Her mother, who also was one of the participants, said it was unfortunate to loose a talented daughter and human being like Arfa.

Arfa Karim was a computer prodigy who in 2004 at the age of nine years became the youngest Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP). She retained the title till 2008. She died on Jan 14, 2012, after suffering cardiac arrest following an epileptic seizure that damaged her brain.

She represented Pakistan on various international forums, including the TechEd Developers Conference. She also received the President's Award for Pride of Performance.

The Arfa Karim Software Technology Park in Lahore was named after her. She was also invited by Bill Gates to visit the Microsoft Headquarters in the USA. — Staff Reporter
