PESHAWAR, June 23: The Peshawar police have arrested a notorious criminal and recovered a stolen car from his possession on the Kohat Road here on Monday.
The police erected barricades on the road after receiving a tip-off that the notorious outlaw Hameed Ullah alias Hamiday had lifted a car from Punjab, and would go to Darra Adamkhel for handing it over to his accomplices, said a press release issued here on Monday.
During the road-blockade, the police stopped his car and arrested him, the press release said, and added that Hameed Ullah was wanted by police in dozens of car-lifting, murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping for ransom and robbery cases.
During the interrogation Hameed Ullah confessed to lifting more than 100 cars and kidnapping 15 persons for ransom from major cities of the country. On his information the police also recovered two more stolen cars.
Meanwhile, the city police launched an operation against outlaws in the Mathra locality on Monday and arrested 28 persons wanted to police in many cases and seized weapons.
