Depts owe Wasa Rs300m

LAHORE, June 22: Government departments have to pay over Rs300 million to the Water and Sanitation Agency on account of water supply, sewerage and aquifer charges.

The defunct Metropolitan Corporation of Lahore, the Lahore Development Authority and the Parks and Horticulture Authority are major defaulters of Wasa owing over Rs1,500 million to it.

The MCL has to pay Rs79.477 million, the LDA over Rs50 million and the PHA over Rs30 million.

The health department has not paid over Rs50 million to Wasa while the education department is in default of over Rs20 million. Punjab police have to pay Rs10 million while the PWD, the Engineering University and the Governor’s House are in default of over Rs5 million each and Rs4 million, respectively. The transport department (defunct Punjab Road Transport Corporation) and the irrigation department are in default of over Rs1.5 million each.

The director general, sports, district courts and the Government Printing Press have to pay over Rs1 million each; auqaf and forest department over Rs1 million each; Civil Secretariat over Rs2 million and the settlement commissioner and the Board of Revenue over Rs300,000 each.

The Punjab Assembly has to pay it over Rs200,000, inspector general of prisons Rs150,000, industries department over Rs100,000 and Lahore Zoo and the livestock department over Rs80,000 each.
