NAWABSHAH, June 21: A widow, Naseem Akhtar, and her relatives, Zaheer Ahmed and Majid Arain, residents of the Aulia village, near Qazi Ahmed, have accused the Qazi Ahmed SHO of atrocities and demanded his suspension.

Speaking at a news conference at the local press club on Saturday, they said that on June 18, SHO Syed Aijaz Ali Shah with nine policemen and four armed men — Abdul Wudood, Abdul Saboor, Abdul Hameed Arain and Mohammad Akram — barged into their house without any search warrant.

They alleged that the SHO and his team beat up women, children and other inmates and resorted to aerial firing when the family offered resistance.

The villagers said that the police threatened that if they wanted safety, they should leave their house and pay them Rs100,000 as protection money.

They alleged that the police looted cash, gold ornaments and a license of a gun and took Mr Ahmed, Mr Majid and Sumair Ahmed with them.

When their relatives sent telegrams to the authorities, the SHO freed the two men after 46 hours and threatened that if they would not leave the house and bring Rs100,000 in two days, they would find body of Sumair on roadside, the villagers alleged.

They demanded of the authorities to get Sumair released from illegal detention, provide them justice, suspend the SHO and order an investigation against him.

PROBE REPORT AWAITED: The report of investigation into death of a child, Ali Raza, 2, who died after being operated in eye ward of the Peoples’ Medical College Hospital here two days back, has been delayed.

The report was to be presented by a team of senior doctors of the PMCH by June 20 but has been delayed due to unknown reasons.

PMCH medical superintendent, when contacted, was not available for comments.
