TOBA TEK SINGH, Dec 14: The Tehrik-i-Jafaria Pakistan (TJP) leaders have condemned the Israeli atrocities on innocent Palestinians and held the US responsible for the unjustified occupation of Baitul Maqdus.
Addressing the Al-Quds day public gathering on Friday in central Imambargah, Jhang Road, TJP leaders Syed Murad Ali Shah and ISO president urged the Muslim countries to get themselves united to liberate Baitul Maqdus.
Similar public meetings were also held at Kamalia and Gojra.
A procession was also taken out in the afternoon which marched through reportedly in town bazaars.
SCHOLARSHIPS: Public circles have urged the provincial zakat and ushr department to raise the annual scholarships’ amount for students of government educational institutes.
Presently the Zakat department awards annually to the poor and intelligent students Rs600 to students of primary and middle schools, Rs900 to students of high schools and Rs3,000 to higher secondary schools, colleges and universities, they said.
They said the amount of awards should be doubled for the education expenditures had leapt over the past few years.
PROTEST: Farmers have protested over the purchase of sugar cane at Rs32 to 35 per 40 kg by the sugar mills in the district.
They said in fact the growers got only Rs28 per 40 kg after the deduction of their produce by mills in the name of low quality. They said the return they got was much less than the money they spent on the cultivation of the crop.
They warned that if the government did not pay heed to their problems, the farmers would not sow the crop in future. They also condemned the middlemen who were looting them through less weighing on their own established purchase centres.
Meanwhile, the district Nazim has banned with immediate effect the setting up of purchase centres without prior permission to authorities concerned across the district. The order shall remain operative for a period of one week.
