ISLAMABAD, June 21: Speakers paid tributes to Pakistan People’s Party Chairperson Benazir Bhutto and highlighted her struggle for democracy in Pakistan at seminars and functions held throughout the country and in foreign countries on Saturday to celebrate her 50th birthday.

Seminars in this connection were held in the federal Capital, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta and Bahawalpur. Abroad, the birthday celebrations were held in Chicago, London, New York, London and other European capitals.

Speakers at the seminars highlighted the democratic struggle against dictatorship and fascism in the country. Tributes were also paid to all those who have struggled for restoration of democracy and Constitution in the country.

The special poem composed by the former premier for the occasion was also read at the seminars. The poem is titled The Story of Benazir: From Marvi of Malir and Shah Abdul Latif. The poem was also published in full by several English and Urdu newspapers in the country in Saturday’s issue.

Speakers representing cross section of public opinion spoke at the seminars.

Ms Bhutto has thanked all those who sent flowers, greeting cards and messages of felicitations to her on her birthday.

In a message released by the PPP media cell here on Saturday she said that the outpouring of love manifested in the flood of messages had given her new hope and strength.
