Six die in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, June 20: Six people were killed and 30 injured in a series of grenade explosions and shootouts in held Kashmir, a police spokesman said on Friday.

The spokesman said Indian troops shot dead five rebels in two separate overnight encounters in southern Doda and northern Baramulla districts.

A rebel killed in the Baramulla encounter was identified as Mohammed Altaf who was working as a “commander” for Lashkar-i-Taiba.

Police said unidentified men shot dead another activist Mohammed Rashid, an ex-army man, in southern Poonch district on Friday. Meanwhile, 30 people were injured in two separate grenade attacks on police.—AFP
