SHEIKHUPURA, June 19: Special police teams have been formed and a complaint cell set up at the CM Secretariat to combat crime.
This was stated by Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi while speaking at a public meeting in Anandpur, Shahkot, where he had gone to sympathize with Riaz Shah whose two daughters were criminally assaulted allegedly by some vagabonds during a dacoity attempt some 10 days ago.
He said officers of the complaint cell would conduct impartial inquiries into cases of dacoity, rape and murder and present the findings to him. The cell would also provide free legal aid and financial assistance to victims.
He directed the local members of parliament, Nazims and other officials to inform the local administration and police about any irregularity so that a prompt action could be taken against the guilty.
The chief minister offered his sympathies with Riaz whose house was looted and daughters raped. He also announced a compensation of Rs200,000 for the family, and directed the Sheikhupura range DIG and the SSP to nab the criminals within 10 days and report to him.
He later announced that a handicraft school for girls would be opened in Anandpur besides the provision of gas.
The chief minister was accompanied by Punjab IG police Syed Masood Shah, district Nazim Tawwakal Virk, DCO Ayub Qazi and local parliamentarians.
KIDNAPPED: A girl was kidnapped allegedly by three vagabonds in Ferozewatwan here on Thursday.
The girl ‘S’ who worked in a textile mills was on her way home when she was kidnapped by Iqbal and two accomplices.
Bheki police have registered a case and are investigating.
