GUJRANWALA, June 19: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal activists, who were arrested for setting a circus on fire, were released from a jail on Thursday on the directives of the Anti-Terrorism Court No 1.

The judge, Syed Iftikhar Husain Shah, ordered that the accused would deposit surety bonds of Rs20,000 each with court. Circus manager Omar Farooq, the complainant, failed to appear in court despite issuance of his warrant of arrest. The court has directed the police to arrest him and produce him in court.

According to Jamaat-i-Islami district amir Allama Obaidul Rahman Madni, the circus manager is involved in various cases, and police have declared him proclaimed offender for evading court.

The activists of various religio-political parties flocked court at the time of verdict.

ARREST: The district and sessions judge on Thursday ordered arrest of two landlords, who had confined three members of a family at their outhouse at Bhoma Bath village, Alipur Chattha.

Reports said Manzoor Husain, his wife Sharifan Bibi and daughter Sumaira, were retrieved by a court bailiff after receiving complaints.

Police have registered a case against accused Muhammad Sadiq and Ashfaq.

Gepco chief: The local electric power company chief executive, Brig Saifullah Khalid, on Thursday inquired after the two Wapda linesmen, who were shot at and injured over suspicion by three brothers.

He announced that the company would bear the cost of their treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital. A police contingent accompanied Gepco chief.

District Police Officer Raja Munawar told Brig Khalid that the three brothers had been arrested and a case had been registered against them.

WORKSHOP: State Bank of Pakistan local chief manager Saeed Hassan has urged the cashiers to carefully check the currency notes before accepting those.

Speaking at a workshop, he warned that counterfeit currency notes were in circulation. He advised the cashiers to utilize the latest technology, which would be provided to them shortly.
