QUETTA, June 16: The law enforcement agencies have arrested 36 persons in connection with the Sariab firing incident.

“We are not sparing any suspect who has links with the incident,” SSP Quetta Rehmat Ullah Niazi told Dawn on Monday.

He said that all the suspects taken into custody by the law enforcement agencies were handed over to the special investigating teams comprising police, Intelligence Bureau, Military Intelligence and some other agencies for interrogation.

Sources claimed that investigating agencies have traced mobile phone calls which were made before the firing incident, informing the movement of police recruits who were killed.

The Police Task Force (PTF) established by the Balochistan government for tracing people involved in Sariab firing incident and other terrorist activities had begun functioning under SSP Quetta’s command, the sources said.

Chief Minister Jam Mir Mohammad Yousaf had given the “go ahead” signal to the new force, the sources added.

JAM YOUSAF: Mr Yousaf has said that the situation in the province demands collective efforts against terrorism.

“We should get united to serve the country,” he said while speaking to a delegation of the Hazara tribe elders on Monday.

Condemning the Sariab firing incident he said that a special task force had been constituted for investigation.

“Police and administration is making all-out efforts for the arrest of the killers,” the chief minister said and regretted the attitude of the eyewitnesses for not helping law enforcement agencies.
