RAWALPINDI, June 14: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) as well as Rawalpindi cantonment and city areas have been securing less water than their allotted share from Khanpur Dam, Wasa officials told Dawn.

According to a Wasa press release issued here on Saturday, the complaints of water shortage being received from various parts of the city are being resolved as per priorities.

It said out of the total 14.6 million gallon per day (MGD) water supply from Khanpur Dam, Wasa had been securing four MGD, which was 27 per cent of the total supply.

In the same ratio, a Wasa spokesman said, the CDA and Rawalpindi Cantonment Board were getting less supply from the reservoir.

He said water from Khanpur Dam was being supplied through Shamsabad overhead tank to areas like Shamsabad, Dhok Kala Khan, Model School Service Road, Muslim Town, Khyaban-i-Sir Syed overhead tanks, Dhok Najju, Amin Town, Pirwadhai, Dhok Hassu, Dhok Mangtal, Khurram Colony and Dhok Ratta.

As far as supply of water from Public Park overhead tank is concerned, the spokesman said the tank had not been made operational as yet. He added that the tank would meet the requirements of Satellite Town, New Katarian, Malpur etc., when it became operational.

The spokesman said to overcome water shortage, it was very important that adequate supply was made from Khanpur Dam. He said the newly-installed water pipelines would soon be connected to the old lines, and tests of connections were being undertaken in this regard.

The supply of water to the city from Rawal Dam is 40 MGD. As many as 207 Wasa tubewells are in operation. In all, 108 MGD water is being supplied daily.

The work regarding installation of new pipelines had almost been completed, and tests were being carried out. It advised the consumers to contact Wasa’s Liaquat Road office with a copy of their last bill, to get new connection.
