LAHORE, June 13: The Lahore High Court on Friday granted bail to two teenaged brothers in a blasphemy case, whose mother —- the principal accused —- had already been granted bail last month.

Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa allowed the bail application of 14-year-old Shahid and 15-year-old Zahid, both of whom were directed to file bail bonds for Rs50,000.

The court observed that the juveniles’ case was fully covered by Section 497 of the CrPC. As no material was to be recovered from them, their detention was not permissible. The two brothers, along with their mother Sakina Bibi, residents of Shad Bagh, are accused of desecrating the Holy Quran.

The petitioners’ counsel, Pervez Aslam Chaudhry, argued that they deserved bail since the principal accused was already on bail and there was no incriminating evidence available against them on record.— Reporter
