Kabirwala: MPs’ input sought

LAHORE, Dec 10: Punjab Minister for Zakat and Ushr Malik Nadeem Kamran said on Tuesday reservations and proposals of members of national and provincial assemblies would be considered for granting status of district to Kabirwala tehsil with up-gradation of Abdul Hakim as tehsil.

Kabirwala is presently a tehsil headquarters situated just 10km away from its district headquarters, Khanewal. A move was launched recently by local MNAs and MPAs to get it a status of district.

On the other hand, MNAs and MPAs from Khanewal district have reportedly opposed the move.

“We want to take up this issue and resolve it with consultation,” the minister said while presiding over as convener of a committee meeting constituted for granting status of tehsil to Abdul Hakim and district to Kabirwala here at Punjab Assembly’s committee room.

MNA Raza Hayat Hiraj, MPAs Nishat Khan Daha, Husain Jahanian Gardezi, Chaudhry Fazalur Rehman, former MPA Irfan Ahmad Khan Daha, senior member Board of Revenue, Planning and Development member, additional secretary (local government), Multan commissioner, members of committee comprising Khanewal DCO and officers concerned were also present on the occasion.

The committee considered the proposals of MNA Raza Hayat Hiraj for granting district status to Kabirwala. The committee also considered in detail all aspects of political, social, economic and administrative matters.

The minister sought proposals from MPs, saying the existing delimitations should stay intact.

The participants decided that the proposals submitted by committee members would be considered in the next meeting.
