SARGODHA, June 11: The PPP (Parliamentarians) is not against Islamization but it will not allow anybody to impose Taliban-style regime.
This was stated here on Wednesday by Punjab PPPP president and opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly Qasim Zia at a press conference at the residence of Dr Naveed Akram at Chak 84-SB, some 18 kilometres from here.
About the Punjab Assembly affairs, Mr Zia said the opposition had placed a three-point agenda in its requisition for smooth running of the assembly proceedings. They are; action against those who insulted and restrained the opposition members from attending the assembly session which was gross violation and denial of privileges of the members, secondly all the bills passed should be reopened for discussion enabling opposition to record their opinion and thirdly all the development schemes suggested by the treasury should be discussed.
He said budget was nothing but jugglery of figures. It provides no relief to the common man but a lot to the privileged class.
The PPPP leader said the party did not accept Gen Pervez Musharraf as president because, according to the law, he did not qualify to be elected to the high office. He was a government servant who was not eligible to participate in the election, he added.
Mr Zia said the provincial executive committee of the party unanimously resolved that the government should withdraw all the cases against PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto and Asif Zardari and other leaders so that they could play their role in the national politics.
He condemned the maltreatment of jail authorities with PPPP women activists in Multan jail.
He said the PPPP was launching a mass contact move to organize the party at the union council level.
He also addressed a workers convention held in the evening at the residence of MPA Dr Nadia Aziz to celebrate the 50th birthday of Ms Bhutto.
Mr Zia urged the workers to prepare themselves for the struggle for revival of democracy and rule of law.
Besides others, the convention was attended by Malik Azizul Haq, Rana Hakim Khan, district PPPP president Naveed Chaudhry, Haji Afzal Chan, Mamoor Ahmad Bhatti, Nawabzada Ghazanfar Gul, Anwarul Haq Piracha, Haroon Ehsan Piracha, Dr Zulfikar Ali Bhatti and Rao Abdul Ghaffar.
