Bar presidents warned of action

LAHORE, June 11: The provincial adviser on human rights, Rana Ejaz Ahmad Khan, on Wednesday claimed that a movement had been launched to collect signatures of lawyers for a no-confidence move against the sitting presidents of the Supreme Court Bar Association and the Lahore High Court Bar Association.

The provincial adviser in a press statement warned the presidents, Hamid Khan and Hafiz Abdul Rehman Ansari, that lawyers would take strict action against them if they did not stop using the bar platform for political designs. “Both are serving as tools of political parties in violation of the Legal Practitioners Act 1973,” he alleged, adding that the bar platform could only be used for lawyers’ welfare and protection of their legal rights.

Mr Khan claimed that the lawyers community fully supported the government’s stance on the LFO, and the active participation of the representatives of district bar councils in the gathering arranged by the Lahore Bar Association spoke volumes for this “reality”.

He announced that on the pattern of LBA’s function, lawyers conventions would also be held in the other three provinces to win the support of lawyers for the LFO.
