The items being distributed include 375 sewing machines, dowry for 20 girls, 175 wheel barrows and 12,000 kg wheat.
These items were distributed at a ceremony held at the City Government’s Secretariat.
Addressing the ceremony, the city Nazim said that upon election they had promised to the citizens of Karachi that besides other commitments, they will also work for elimination of unemployment.
He observed that marriages of girls lingers on for want of resources while unemployment is quite high. However, the city government does not have so much resources with which it could help a large number of people.
He said the items being distributed have been purchased with the money provided by a philanthropist and our effort would be that this process continues.
The government, he said, has distributed 8000 tons of wheat worth Rs 7.5 million among deserving people and this process is going on at the town level.
The Nazim said it is not a matter of favour but the right of deserving people and it is being given to rightful people.
Naib Nazim Karachi Tariq Hasan said provision of dowry for 20 girls and assistance to mustahqeens, especially the arrangement of job for unemployed people, is a virtuous task and the Al-Khidmat Group and the City Nazim deserve felicitation on this success.
The Nazim Karachi, Naimatullah Khan, on Thursday directed the administrator of New Sabzi Mandi, Javed Iqbal, to remove all the cabins put up in the mandi before Eid-ul-Fitr.
He summoned the administrator to his office and issued directives to him that since these cabins were put up without permission of the competent authority and as such these come under purview of encroachments and be removed immediately.
He directed that all details concerning the cabins, the receipts regarding recovery of payments, the bank receipts and terms and conditions entered into with the contractor be also produced forthwith.
