River flow increases

LAHORE, June 10: The combined river flow witnessed a healthy increase on Tuesday, touching a substantial 500,600 cusecs —- almost 200,000 more than the total withdrawal capacity of the country’s irrigation system.

Out of the 500,600 cusecs, around 368,300 cusecs were released for irrigation and the rest of the 132,300 cusecs stored at both dams in the country.

The Indus River registered an inflow of 256,400 cusecs at Tarbela. Out of it, around 160,000 cusecs were released and the rest was stored. The dam level leapt to 1,418.75 feet against the dead level of 1,369.

In Jhelum, Mangla had a healthy 85,900 cusecs, which boost the lake level to 1,181.65 per cent. Around 35,900 cusecs were stored on Tuesday.

The base flow of both Chenab at Marala (86,700 cusecs) and Kabul at Nowshera (71,600 cusecs) also witnessed sizeable increase and provided much-needed relief to the authority.
