No child rights policy in Punjab

LAHORE, Nov 29: The Child Rights Movement (CRM) has said the Punjab government has failed to reflect child rights on its agenda that is resulting in the increase in child rights violations.

Speaking at a news conference at a local hotel on Friday, CRM spokesman Iftikhar Mubarak said the movement had also written letters to the chief minister but all in vain.

He said there was no focal department that could be held responsible for child rights violation. In the minor girl’s rape case, he said, civil society was eventually supposed to contact police.

“It is a matter of concern that Punjab has no child rights policy as well as no action plan,” he added.
