ISLAMABAD, Dec 13: An accountability court is likely to announce its verdict in three identical corruption references against former chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Shafi Sehwani on Friday.

Earlier the judge, accountability court No.1, Rustum Ali Malik, was scheduled to announce the judgment on December 11 but deferred the matter for Friday as the defence counsel was not present in the court.

Mr Sehwani had submitted additional evidence in the court, with a request to allow him to use the evidence in his defence.

However prosecutor Rashid Qamar opposed the application contending that additional evidence could not be filed at the stage when the defence evidence had already been closed.

Chaudhry Mohammad Naseer, appearing on behalf of the accused, disputed the prosecutor and argued that the law had never restricted provision of defence evidence at any stage.

The accused is facing charges of amassing properties disproportionate to his source of income by abusing his official authority.

Besides the main accused, former PARC officer Abdul Rehman, Roohi Farzana, wife of Mr Sehwani and his relatives, Sadia Parveen, Aitzaz Ahmad and Ms Almas were also co-accused in the case.

According to the prosecution Mr Sehwani in collaboration with Abdul Rehman had acquired 5000 square yards industrial plot in sector I-9/1, and converted into three plots. The plots were acquired by violating building rules and criteria.
