SHEIKHUPURA, June 8: Thirteen people were killed and 60 others injured in two road accidents — one near Shahdan Lond, Dera Ghazi Khan, on Saturday night and the other near Kala Shah Kaku on Sunday.
Six passengers were killed while 10 others were injured when a wagon rammed into a roadside tree near Kala Shah Kaku on the GT Road.
A jam-packed wagon (LHO-3120), going to Sialkot from Lahore, swerved off the road and rammed into a roadside tree after its tie-rod failed. Six passengers -— Tanvir, Amna Bibi, her son Hasnain (5), driver Nazir, Sajjad and Suleman — died instantly, while 10 others sustained serious injuries.
The injured were removed to the local THQ Hospital from where two of them were shifted to the Mayo Hospital, Lahore, in serious condition.
Seven people, including a woman, were killed and 50 others injured when a bus rammed into the railway track fence alongside the Indus Highway near Shahdan Lond, Dera Ghazi Khan.
A bus was going to Swat from Karachi. Near Shahdan Lond, driver Jehanzeb tried to overtake another vehicle at a very high speed. As a result, the tie-rod of the bus failed and it rammed into the iron fence of the railway track.
Seven people, including driver Jehanzeb, conductor Mohammed Husain, Fayyaz of Dir, Rahman Shah of Swat, Khan Wazir and Abida Ibad of Baldia Town, Karachi, died on the spot.
Some 50 passengers sustained injuries and were taken to the Dera DHQ’s Hospital from where four of them were referred to the Nishtar Hospital, Multan, due to critical condition.
The injured included Lt-Commander of the Navel Academy Saad Raheem and Karachi’s Hijrat Colony union council Nazim Habibur Rahman Khan.
