JACOBABAD, June 8: A procession was taken out by the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam here on Sunday against the non-availability of water in Sindh, proposed leasing of land to multinational companies, the Thal canal project, deteriorating law and order in the district and obscenity.
The procession, led by local JUI leader Dr A.G. Ansari and others, began from the Family Lane and, after marching through main roads of the city, ended outside the local press club where the protesters staged a sit-in.
Speaking on the occasion, the JUI leaders demanded of the government to stop construction of the disputed canal, not to lease out land to multinational companies, restore law and order in the Jacobabad district and root out obscenity.
They alleged that the federal government was responsible for rendering Sindh barren by depriving it of its due share of water.—Correspondent
